Children, sports, broken glass

If you inspected every sports field in Canberra, I doubt you'd find even one with broken glass on it. You might some broken glass around the edges, maybe on the footpath, but not on the actual playing field.

On the other hand, if you inspected every public playground in Canberra - and by public I mean to discount those in schools and shopping centres - it wouldn't take you long to find one with at least some broken glass, not to mention cigarette butts. There are at least five playgrounds within a fifteen minute walk from my house, and I'd be willing to bet that you'd find broken glass at two or three of them right now.

What does that say about Australian society and our priorities?
